Regular expression sometimes fails

Hi all!

I have problems with the construction of a regular expression. Sometimes (rarely) the following (see attachment) regexp generates a DXL error (Badly placed paranthesis).

The problem seems to occur when some memory intensive operations have been performed (like exports or heavy diff functions). It also happens if an object have to many OLE-bitmaps (not sufficient memory for RTF-strings). To me it looks like the DXL string handling goes crazy since the problem will remain when it starts happen (until DOORS is restarted).

Has anyone had the same problem? Is the regexp not correct?

Hi !

Look at attached, as this fine {code} mark-up doesn't work

\\ translates into \, so it escapes the first ], so your bracketted range started at first character and ended just after the nine. So your closing parenthese had no opening parenthese.

To search for a backslash, you have do double it for escaping in Regexp, then double both \ for escaping in string constant.

(Note that DOORS 7 was more tolerant than DOORS 8 regarding \ in bracketed ranges, so a wrong regexp that worked with DOORS 7 won't work anymore - it was most of our DXL migration effort from 7 to 8.)

Thanks!

Your suggestion works fine.

What's bothering me is that the regexp is accepted most of the time (I'm on 8.1.0.8). We use this regexp in an exporting tool frequently and it only breaks under certian cirmustances, and than it will continue to break until DOORS is restarted.
